Elevation:

  • Cusco:11,152 ft
  • Urubamba: 9,420 ft*
  • Machu Picchu: 7,972 ft
*Accomodations are in Urubamba, which allows for better altitude adjustment. Visit your local health care provider or Passport Health for possible medications that can help with elevation adjustment.

How fit do I need to be?

This is a tough question to answer. Each person is unique and elevation will effect each person differently. During our day hikes and tours we will spend most of the day hiking and walking. Your guides will pace these activities appropriately to meet the groups needs. If you are physically capable of going out for a day hike with a day pack on hills or mountains this will be a good judgment of your capabilities for this trip. You may consider using a heavier pack for "training hikes" leading up to the trip. Hiking poles during our hikes can be of great benefit to minimizing leg fatigue. This trip has the following rating: (4) Vigorous: Recommended for fit travelers with basic skills Activity: 5-8 hours most days Distances: Hike up to 12 miles most days, cycle 30-50 miles most days Surfaces: mountainous, exposed terrain with steep ascents/descents and uneven trails Elevation change: up to 4,000 ft/day Altitude: up to 14,000 ft. Experience and a doctor's release may be required For more information regarding typical trip ratings please see the website FAQ section for a comparative list of the above rating. We are also happy to discuss this with you if you have any questions, please contact us.

Will I be hiking with a fully loaded pack?

No. We will be going for day hikes wich will require a minimum number of items in your day pack Day packs should include: your water bottle, rain gear, sunscreen, hat, and other belongings.

What will the weather be like?

Weather and trail conditions can vary. Temperatures range from warm and humid, mid to upper 70's during the day, to a chill low 50's during the night and early mornings. November is considered the start to the shoulder season of peak season for travelers and weather in this region of Peru. This can be a beautiful time of the year to visit this region as weather brings the iconic and lush emerald green to the valley. Rain can be anticipated and we recommend always carrying a rain coat. Note: weather at Machu Picchu tends to bring warmer temperatures, but its high jungle climate can often bring mist and rain. Questions about the weather? Contact us.

What language do Peruvians speak?

The dominant language spoken is Spanish, however, you will find some locals speak English. Your guides will assist with any language barriers. Some of the natives in this region still speak the native language of Quechua (ˈkeCHwə).

Is the retreat suitable for beginners? What if I haven't done yoga before?

Yes. The physical practice of yoga will be tailored to the group. The integration of yoga techniques for travel and transformation will be practical and approachable for all. This trip has been designed to focus on the most practical aspects of yoga including postures and philosophies so that tools can be used by anyone with or without yoga experience. This is not classified as a yoga dominate adventure and yoga will be used to enhance your travel and cultural immersion. Yoga sessions will take place in the mornings and some times the afternoons.

Is it okay to come on my own?

Yes! You are welcome to come on your own and enjoy the opportunity to connect with like-minded people. You will be placed in a room of your choice with others who have selected the same room type as you. There are a limited number of single rooms available.
